GUN apprentice Patrick Moloney combined with stable favourite Kareeming to win the ALH Group – Great Food Great Value Plate at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Carey and Moloney families have a strong connection, going back to the days of Epsom training centre where Old Pat worked alongside the legendary Jim Moloney, grandfather of Young Pat.  The families have stayed firm friends, and P. Carey said he was delighted to have given P. Moloney his first winning ride – on Luck's a Fortune.

“He has a big future. He has a good head, he’s a lightweight, he is keen to learn and he has all the skills,” he said.

“That was a beautiful ride.”

Kareeming is raced by a large and happy group from Clanbrooke Racing and Sharing Winners.

His record now stands at 5 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 18 starts.  This was his first win at a city track, and takes his earnings to over $140,000.   Not bad for a horse that Pat bought for $5,500 at the Scone yearling sales!

Congratulations to all owners, and well done to the Epsom Lodge team – particularly Donna who just loves her "Monster".
