Sunday 9th February was the final Pakenham Cup day at the Pakenham racecourse founded by the Burke family, and it was a day of memories and celebrations all round.

Pat took 4 horses along, each one at the top of their game, and hopes were high for a very good day out.  As luck would have it it was a good day, and it could just as easily have been a great day, with all runners finishing in the money – three seconds and a third!

Docking had his first start in the maiden, and whilst still very green he turned in a gutsy performance to push through the traffic and record a fast-finishing second.

Solomon's Song racing in a strong field gave his customary best effort to finish second, however with a little more luck in the run he could have just as easily won.

London Stripe charged home under the urging of our apprentice Aaron Mitchell to record the third second place of the day.  The spell was broken in the last by Luck's A Fortune who had no luck and only bad fortune in the running to finish third.

All in all it was a pretty successful day for Epsom Lodge, and a great way to farewell the old Pakenham course.  We look forward to the opening of the new Pakenham racetrack at Tynong early next year, and hope to greet many winners there.
