Well done to Cuban Sunday who won his first Listed race, the Slickpix Stakes over 1700m at Caulfield today.

Cuban Sunday has been racing with great heart on wet tracks in recent weeks, and relished the improved conditions.  Thanks to a well executed ride by Michael Walker, he overcame a very ordinary barrier and finished over the top of everything else to bring home the chocolates!

Pat Carey is not normally one to smile for the camera, but he was clearly delighted with the win as he paid tribute to legendary racing identity Dick McCarthy who is involved with Vinery Stud and Newstead No. 2 partnership.

"It is a special occasion for Dick and his wife Vivian as he has recently had his 80th birthday, and he was seen to be celebrating in good style.  One thinks that Dick may well have taken advantage of the juicy odds"

"The team at Epsom Lodge do a fantastic job, and I am proud that their hard work has paid off with a win in a significant race. Bloody good job guys."

"All things being equal, we can look forward to more fun with Cuban Sunday over the Spring, and it is likely now that Cuban Sunday will head to the Naturalism Stakes in just over a fortnight."
