Mornington trainer Pat Carey is also looking towards the spring with his progressive three-year-old Ulundi, who came from the rear of the field to win the Bruce Gadsden Handicap over 1700 metres.

The Mornington trainer said Ulundi reminded him of Thong Classic, who ran in the 2002 Melbounre Cup that spring. " I think he's got similar abiltiy." Carey said. "He showed promise last spring then he was gelded and took a while to get over it. ''He has really turned the corner this campaign and I think there is a nice future ahead of him",

Ulundi and Cerdarberg are both raced by the Western Australian-based Wyadup Valley Farm Syndicate and are sired by Victorian Derby winner Helenus.

Helenus has had 30 winners from 58 runners this season and, after a stint at stud in WA, did not cover mares last season. He will stand in the New South Wales Highlands this season.
