Lightly raced and promising filly Spot on Maggie broke her maiden status in fine style this afternoon at Cranbourne taking out race two in convincing fashion.

The daughter of One Cool Cat was only having her third start at the track and under the guidance of Peter Mertens, Spot on Maggie gave nothing else a chance winning by two lengths on the line with something in hand.

Mertens explained to trainer Pat Carey and connections that Spot on Maggie will only get better with racing and he feels that she is up to metropolitan standard.

"The filly is still quite green and wanted to lay in down the straight.

Once she learns to race more attractively you will see a much better horse," Mertens said.

Carey will now allow the filly to get over the run and will look for a race for her over the upcoming Spring Carnival.

Spot on Maggie certainly has great residual value as the filly is out of a Danehill mare and is a half sister to the city winner and stakes placegetter in Enzed Girl.

Spot on Maggie is also from the immediate family of the Group One Coolmore Classic winner in Aloha.

Congratulations to the winning connections in John Sweeney and partners who have enjoyed great success with Epsom Lodge and look likely of having alot more fun with this filly.
