Congratulations to John Sweeney and partners on Maclairey’s win in the Jack Hirsch Memorial Yarra Valley Cup on Friday, 20th December 2019. It was a sweltering hot day and Maclairey -piloted by Beau Mertens – showed great courage to win his first cup in a dead heat.
There is a strong family connection as Beau is the son of Peter Mertens who rode Maclairey’s dam Dame Claire with great success, including winning the Ansett Classic LR at Mornington. Well done to all of the Epsom Lodge team who work tirelessly to have our horses at their peak on raceday.
