Hellava Babe (Helenus/Cherubim)  continued Pat’s winning streak on Thursday 16th March, with a  determined win in the Stateline Office Seating 3YO maiden plate at Racing.com Park.  This is a win truly worth celebrating as it demonstrates how patience, persistence and loyalty can be rewarded.

Many congratulations to Gary, Michael, Peter and Michael who bought the dam with the specific intention of breeding her to Helenus.  This filly is from Helenus’s final crop as we sadly lost him due to complications following surgery.  John Sweeney and partners joined the team later, having seen the filly growing up at Gary and Helen’s Miranda Park property where John had spelled his horses for years.

Jockey Beau Mertens is the second generation of Mertens-es to ride for John, as his father Peter Mertens was the preferred pilot for John’s horses and rode with great success on horses such as Candy Vale and Dame Claire.  Pat and John have had a long and successful association too, sharing many winners and both having fond  memories of the old Epsom days.

As always our team at Epsom Lodge deserve a huge thanks for all their hard work looking after each and every horse in their care. Well done everyone!
